Lofthellir Cave Exploration

Weird world of ice and darkness

Guided 4x4 adventure and activity trip.

This tour takes you along the unique volcano Hverfell, through the crater row of Lúdentarborgir to the roots of Mt. Hvannfell. After a 30-minute walk across a lava field which is adorned by endless ropey lava, we reach Lofthellir, a cave that boasts the greatest natural ice sculptures currently known in an Icelandic lava cave. At least one hour is spent inside the cave, observing this unbelievable natural phenomena, before returning to Reykjahlíð.

Included: Transportation and guide as well as lights, helmets, gloves and studded boots.
Reservations necessary.

Minimum: 4 passengers (or minimum rate)

Please note: This tour is not suitable for young children, people with claustrophobia or people who are not in reasonable physical condition. There is ice and water on the floor of the cave and the temperature inside the cave is around 0°C. Warm and preferably waterproof clothes are recommended.
